chicago lifestyle photographers | coldplay

Monday, August 27th, 2012

Now that Vasili and I have been together for almost five years we’re trying to start making our own traditions, one of which being that we’ve decided to pick one concert to go see together each year.  Last year it was Roger Waters The Wall and this year we chose Coldplay.  Or, rather, last year we technically made the decision as we bought tickets last winter (so worth it as apparently my dentist tells me they were impossible to get recently).  So at the beginning of the month we went to see Coldplay live at the United Center for their Mylo Xyloto tour.  I haven’t seen them perform before but I have always been in love with their music.  In fact, whenever I’m driving in the car to a photography session, a meeting, the grocery store, a friend’s house.. well, you get the idea.. no matter where my destination, one of their CDs always cycles through my playlist at least once.  But despite my intense love affair with their artwork I had no idea just how incredible it would be to actually see them in-person.. to see the passion in all of the band members while they played and lost themselves in their performance as over 19,000 people cheered them on and cried out for more ha can you even imagine what that must feel like?!

above: Vasili and I right before the show started.  And poor Vasili, I had just dragged him from the first to the second to the first floor again and then all the way up to the third floor just to find a stand that still had the concert posters for sale lol I love him for not ever giving me grief about this kind of thing (when I want something, I am pretty persistent).

Anyway, I won’t torture you any longer.. I’ve included a little video below of the second song they played in their set after their intro and I think was one of the best magical parts of the whole show. At about 34 seconds my recording gets a little shaky as I leaned over to Vasili to say “Oh my gosh I think I’m gonna cry!!!” And at approximately 1:27 minutes into it is my favorite part :)

family vacation photographers | paris was a perfect event

Friday, August 24th, 2012

Although many of you already know, last month I went to Paris for a week with Debi Lily of A Perfect Event and her two kiddos, Lily & Parker.  What started out as a light-hearted Facebook conversation quickly turned into booking a ticket to visit Debi & her kids and capture them in the most beautiful city on Earth (well, at least top 3 anyway ;) ).  We hung out, enjoyed espresso and home-cooked meals by Lily, chef-extraordinaire.. we walked all over Paris every day to see something new, watched movies, rode carnival rides and enjoyed popcorn and slushies.. we put a love lock on the bridge over the Seine River and saw an exhibit of one of my favorite photographers, Helmut Newton.  It was simply perfect.

Anyway, I’ve included a bazillion of my favorites below of my time with these three so you can see for yourself.

And if you like what you see and want a really fun photographer who is willing to ride carnival rides and drink slushies until her brain freezes with your kiddos to come along on your trip.. and so you can be present in all of your memories and not just ‘the photographer,’ shoot me an email and I’d be delighted to capture your family’s most special moments for you :)

chicago fine-art film family & baby photographers | another trip to iowa.

Wednesday, August 15th, 2012

Last month I went to Iowa to spend time with good friends, escape the grind of work, and eat fried pickles for days on end :)  Not sure if you remember my blog post from my last visit, but I can’t believe how big Jefferson is getting!! (click HERE to see some newborn photography from my last visit out there when he was just freshly born). Anyway, here are just a couple family photographs I took of them to remember this trip by.. we even let Jefferson eat his dinner outside the last night of my trip (did you know it’s National Breastfeeding Awareness Month? Check out HealthConnect One’s Facebook for more info!).  And if you like what you see here, feel free to head over to my ‘secret’ blog to see more images from my mini Iowa vacay.. Simply From Within, a place where I’ll be sharing more of my own personal film work and thoughts.

NOTE: These images were all taken with my old-school film cameras.  If you like what you see and have any interest in me incorporating this into your own Simply by Suzy experience, please don’t hesitate to let me know at info@simplybysuzy.com as I typically do all of my client work with digital mediums.

chicago lifestyle photographers | apartment hunting.

Sunday, July 15th, 2012

Being in our apartment is starting to feel like staying in a relationship you know isn’t good for you anymore, but you can’t help but hold onto all those good times you’ve had over the years.  I’m sure we all can relate when I say that familiarity is a hard thing to let go of…  But despite a slue of building issues and maintenance problems, I love this little space because Vasili and I have built so many memories here.  Most of all I think I’m going to miss being able to watch the sun set every.single.day.. And on a really good day, at just the right minute, the light will even come in with a really deep reddish hue. It’s spectacular.

Anyway, here are a few images I took yesterday of Lucky snuggling in our LoveSac and enjoying the warmth of this special light.  Now off to somehow cram into my day finishing up work and apartment hunting.. (the latter I completely loathe. So please. If you or anyone you know is looking to rent their 2 bedroom condo, I beg of you.. send me their way)

chicago baby & family photographers | summer time.

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

9 months? Check!

(for Will’s 6 and 3 month sessions, click HERE and HERE).

And actually, as I finish putting this blog post together I just looked back at his entire birth journey and year of life so far (well, only 3/4 of the way through that first year any way) and I am totally misty eyed.  I can’t believe how much he’s grown.. he was such a little love bug at his 3 month session with those big puppy eyes and adorable hairless head (all of which has remained unchanged) and now I can’t believe he’s already 9 months old.  I’ve spent so much time with this bunch that looking back on these is staring to feel like looking at my own life’s photographs and memories..

*sigh*

But enough of the gushy stuff.. :) now that William is 9 months old, we decided to change things up and enjoy his summer session with a real ‘Day in the Life Of’ type feel to it.. we hung out a whole morning, spending sunrise eating watermelon on the beach, grabbing breakfast together before going back home where we played with all of Will’s toys and of course took the dogs for a walk down the block like we always do.  By far my favorite moment this time around was the way that William crawled toward the water like the sand was on fire and splashed around in it.. I thought for a second he was even going to dive underwater and take a swim lol!

Just like always, it was pretty rad :)

Anyway enjoy some of my favorites below from our morning together.  And thanks a million to Will and his family for truly letting me into their hearts, I really appreciate your friendship and am both excited and sad to see you again soon for William’s last session of his first year of life XO

(oh and PS, to the couple that we all met on the beach, just in case you ever see this.. a big congrats to your new addition coming soon!! ;) )

(PSS, this is my first Let the Kids Dress Themselves weekly post for their Summer Shot List!)
