chicago newborn baby photographers | growing up.

Friday, June 10th, 2011

So there was this dream I once had where I was a teenager forever.  Me and my friends would go to the mall every day after school and after cheerleading practice was finished.  We’d talk about boys and make-up for hours and fantasize about growing up one day.  About going off to college and turning 21.. wondering who would be the first of us to have kids? When would we get married? Would we get married at all? And then I woke up and realized that those days are long over and I’m officially a full-fledged adult already *sigh*

I’ve been having these moments of self-actuality often lately (though seemingly more frequent the more gray hairs I find on my head or spider veins on my legs… lol) and one of my most recent experiences happened after one of my best friend’s baby brother… had a baby.  Aside from the fact that this once gangly tall boy who we would playfully tease and embarrass is now a gigantic 200+ lb man whose biceps circumference is probably twice that of one of my thighs, he is now all grown up  and starting a family.  My friend, Liam’s mom and I got together the other weekend and did a mini-session of Liam to celebrate his one-month mark.  Thanks so much for inviting me out to do photos and a BIG congratulations to one of my best friends in the whole world and her entire family. Babies are such a blessing and I’m looking forward to seeing how many more we add to our bunch :)

The photo below actually happened in between pictures and completely by accident (or should I say rather by Liam’s doing and not my own).  He reflexively flailed out his arms and when he relaxed this is how we found him.  Oh yeah… he’s a Wheaton for sure :)

chicago newborn baby photographers | emma.

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

For those who don’t know, I had the amazing pleasure and opportunity of being trained under internationally-renowned newborn photographers, Carrie Sandoval & Brittany Woodall with Baby as Art, in April of 2010. Because of this we have been proud to offer a very unique way of capturing newborn babies and how they are often found in that first week of life – sleepy, oh-so-tiny, curled up and dreaming those elusive dreams that we will never know of… We are also proud to be the only premiere photography studio in Chicago that offers both these peacefully sleeping, fine-art baby portraits and family photojournalism in order to capture those initial days where you are bonding and connecting as a family for the first time.  To contrast with my post the other day which focused on the latter, I thought I’d share a sneak peek of my session with baby Emma to focus on the former :)

Meet Emma.  She was probably one of the tiniest full-term babes we’ve gotten to know and she slept like a champ the entire session. Until we dressed her at the end of her portraits at which time she slowly awoke from her slumber, looked up at her dad and gave the most hilarious expression as if thinking, “What the -?! Where am I? What is that huge black thing in my face and where the heck is my milk?!?” (okay, so that was clearly my projection of what baby Emma was thinking lol!).

But before I end this, I’d love to make a couple of announcements -

1.) First of all I’d like to say the biggest THANK YOU to a woman whose talent for knitting is beyond anything I’ve ever seen.  She is kind and wonderful, and has been making the the most amazing knit goods for us to use at our newborn sessions for the past year and I am so grateful to have found her.  If you’re a newborn photographer, you probably already know about her and if you’re a mother (or trying to think of a great gift for a mother-to-be) I highly suggest contacting Jen Howard about making a custom knit hat for your newborn.  They are the most fantastic keepsake gifts ever and if you get one before our session, I will most absolutely use it in your baby’s photos as they will both make for a fantastic memory box addition.

For more information on how to purchase your own knit keepsake items for your little one, please click on the following link: http://www.bythemoonlightcreations.com/

2.) I’d also like to make an announcement for those who don’t already know.  Simply by Suzy has been partnering with Bump Club & Beyond for the past year and a half and now we are working together to offer you the chance to win the most amazing Father’s Day Gift ever!  Be sure to check out the Bump Club & Beyond facebook page (CLICK HERE!) for more information on how to win a custom session with Simply by Suzy as well as a 20 page fine-art album to showcase and preserve your images forever.

3.) Which leads me to my next point… if you aren’t already familiar with Bump Club & Beyond it is Chicago’s first social event planning company for new and expecting moms.  I don’t support them nor work with them on any projects because I’m getting paid to or any reason other than the fact that I believe in it and believe it is a resource that every Windy City mama should be involved in (and one day when I have my own children you better believe I will be the first in line for all of their events).  It’s a great way to meet other moms whose little one’s share the same due date or age, a way to pamper yourself as an expecting mother at their fab events, and also if you become a VIP you will get 10x the amount you pay for your membership in discounts, free goodies and special opportunities (including 50 free custom-designed birth announcement cards from yours truly!).  No, it not too good to be true.  And yes, you should go to their website to find out more stat!

… and now, for some cuteness to make your Thursday morning that much better :)

chicago newborn photographers | for fun.

Friday, May 27th, 2011

Recently I had the pleasure of shooting alongside one of my good photographer friends from afar, Shannon Dodd from SD Photography in Iowa, who was visiting Chicago for a newborn session.  Shannon and I spent about 5 hours working with baby Emmett and I think I speak for both of us when I say that I had a blast!  The most adorable baby + the perfect lighting and space + the perfect partner to photograph with (aside from Vasili of course! ;) ) = the most fun, amazing day at work :)   Thanks so much Shannon for inviting me along and helping to recharge my creative vision with your unbelievable talent.  Looking forward to the next adventure we have together!

My brother and my friend
What fun we have
The time we share
