feeding tiiiimme….

above: mom & dad teaming up on feeding their two teeny tiny boys. as a newborn photographer, twins’ feeding times occurring simultaneously at a session is gold.
I can’t even express how much I’ve enjoyed getting to know this family, who just recently welcomed a baby girl into their bunch! With two older brothers, Leo & Ralph, I think it’s safe to say that Sofia is already going to be well looked after. I have never seen siblings with so much love and adoration for a new baby of the house.. and the fact that the boys are already so protective over and in love with her is no surprise to me after having met them months ago and experienced just how helpful and sweet they are first hand.
After having first hung out with this family during a pregnancy session a couple months ago, I was really looking forward to coming back and meeting baby Sofia (who already looks so much like her brothers). We hung out at home for a few hours to capture some sleepy dreamin’ and then these 5 were sweet enough to meet me again on another morning at the park so we didn’t have to rush family time. Anyway here are but a few of my favorites, thank you so much again to this family for allowing me the pleasure of capturing Sofia’s birth story and I can’t wait to see you all again soon hopefully
Stay tuned for more from their pregnancy session at home (oy I am so behind on blogging!).
Oh and a little Coldplay to really bring you to the feeling of my workspace today as I finished these images up.. (and I thought I should add to nevermind the actual lyrics of the song, I just love Coldplay!)

above: something so little as a toe curl can make an image for me.

above: at first I wasn’t sure how I felt about the above image.. but I’m not certain what my hesitation was about. It’s definitely one of my favorites, I love how peaceful Sofia looks sleeping soundly outside… the pinks against the greens..

above: vibrant and warm summer light is finally here again, hooray!

above: I think this is one of my favorites because, to me, it reflects the tenderness and softness that this mother has for her children. These are the things that inspire me during a session to reach in and capture ‘something.’

above: love… love… LOVE this image. Sofia receiving her first flowers

above left: Listening to Coldplay + putting this blog together + Ralph’s big smile and arm around Leo = big smile on my face

above: I’ve never worked with siblings who have had such a strong desire to love on and protect their baby sister like these two brothers.

above: Thirty little piggies.

above: while editing these I realized that in the image folder were pictures of a partial eclipse that happened the day of this session. It literally lasted for but a few minutes, and I almost forgot that Vasili had taken pictures of it. Love him for taking these and I’m thinking they might even be a really cool end to this family’s birth story album.. :)
Hip hip hooray! Brady is officially a big brother :)
Baby Lux Avery is here and I can’t believe one of my good childhood friends is now a mom of two! I feel like it wasn’t that long ago that we were going to a babysitting certification class or our first day of high school together.. afternoons filled with cheerleading practice and pep rallies.. *sigh* Yes those days are long behind us.. But while our time for being a kid is over, it is so awesome to be there on the other side of it now as the ‘adult’ and watch my friends’ little ones begin their own journeys. Brady is getting so big and loves the Blackhawks and playing instruments, and now he is finally a big brother to baby sister Lux who already looks so much like him.
Anyway here are some of my favorites from our time together, thanks Kelly for letting me come by and capture your new family of four!! XOXO
NOTE: We’ve been getting an increasing number of inquiries lately for babies who have already been born and we’ve been so sad to have to turn families away as we are already booked for the rest of May. If you are due with your little one and want us to capture your family, be sure to contact us as soon as possible in order to ensure we’re able to fit your newborn session in our calendar. above: This was the first time I experimented with doing more ‘classic’ B&W baby portraits on a black background and I gotta say, I love it! I will definitely be playing around with this set up more at future baby sessions

above: just like my dogs, Nacho found my flokati rug to be very edible

It feels like just last week that I visited good friends to help them capture the arrival of their second little one, Knox. And while I love all the families I work with, this bunch is extra special for me to visit as I’ve been photographing them and Knox’s mom’s sister’s family (confused yet?) for over two years now. I can’t believe how much has changed even just since the last time we did photos.. and the time before that…

And I felt that passage of time once again when I revisited baby Knox and his family once he was three months old. We waited for a nice day out and got together at the park for playtime and more pics. And I think while he looks a lot like his big brother, I think Knox looks SO much like his mom already (as she says, ‘finally!’
).
Anyway here are but some of my favorites of our afternoon together. Congrats again G family on baby #2 and I can’t wait to come back in no time for when he’s 6 months old! XO

above left: at first I skipped over this picture because I caught a distracting car in the behind. And then I realized that the car wasn’t so distracting and rather a pretty good fit alongside a boy running around and just being a boy lol

above: I love baby profiles. I love forehead touches. Nuff’ said

above: attack of the monster baby!!!

above: kids in Patagonia = awesome. I love the texture of the fleece!

above: we joked that Knox looked like a little Grover in his ADORABLE bright blue Patagonia fleece. I’m almost tempted to buy one of these in hopes that one day I have a baby boy to dress up in it

above: I just loved how relaxed Knox looked as he enjoyed a bottle snack. His sweet lips are what inspired me to pull my camera back out from my bag for a shot, even though we had already finished the session.

above: the shots I push myself to take even after I’ve said ‘We’re done,’ are always among my favorites.
Though I’ve come across many baby names I adore, I think it’s official… I’ve found the perfect baby name – Harper Adelaide.
Vasili and I visited this bunch not long ago to help capture their Harper’s debut, who totally lived up to her perfect name with her perfectly sweet and sleepy personality (she slept so soundly I literally think we could have worked with her all day!). And this session was just that much more special to me as I had just spent oodles of time with mom & dad in the months leading up to Harper’s arrival as I documented her entire birth story from belly to birth and beyond. For me there were two highlights to this session.. the first was when we got Harper sleeping in a basket of mom & dad’s tandem bicycle as mom had specifically requested we try this shot. As a photographer there is nothing more satisfying than hearing the gasp and seeing the look on a parent’s face when we capture something so special to them.. this was totally one of those moments
Another favorite for me was all the shots I got of Harper nursing with mom and hanging out with their two pups, Gracie & Gretchen. Every time my own mom would go through my baby books with me as a kid she always would stop at the ones of me nursing.. she would trail her fingers across the picture and smile as I could see her reliving the memory in her mind. There is something so special about feeding time with our little ones (and yes, whether it’s with a boob or a bottle
), and it’s absolutely one of the things I look forward to most about having children of my own.
Anyway, without further ado, here are but a few of my favorites from our time with Miss Harper and her family (be sure to check back to see her entire birth story!). Thank you so so much again to her parents for allowing us the privilege and honor of getting to know them and documenting the birth of their family XO

above: Mom specifically requested this shot as they had a tandem bike which held sentimental value to them. I was excited when she sent me a picture to show her vision and it was a photograph taken by my friends and the ladies who trained me over at Baby as Art in Southern California.

above: such a moment of sweet relief.. this picture always makes my heart melt
