Just recently I had the utmost pleasure of documenting this family as they grew from two to four with the arrival of their twin boys, Hugh & Nolan.  A few months ago mom & dad and I first met up for a pregnancy photography session and getting to know each other a little better (don’t let the bright sunshine fool you in the pics below, it was cold), which of course made it all the more exciting for Vasili and I to come back and visit once the boys arrived.  While twin sessions are always a bit more work intensive for us, we were completely delighted by how sweet and mellow the boys were and how soundly they slept for us :) (no, really, Hugh slept through a 10 minute bout of hiccups.. and for that he goes down in the simply by suzy hall of fame).

Anyway, for once I won’t ramble too much and let the images speak for themselves and how wonderful my time was with this bunch :) Thank you so so much to mom & dad for allowing me the privilege of watching and capturing the growth of their family and as always I can’t wait to come back and see you again XO

Good friends are truly hard to come by.  I, somehow, am lucky enough to have at least a few in my life.

Last month I came home from a long and exhausting day.. ya know, the kind where you come home feeling a little self-defeated.  As I turned the corner and walked up to my apartment door, there on my front step was a beautiful care package of vibrant pink and purple flowers.  I picked up the arrangement and inside there was an envelope with a note that read,

“Suzy,

We are so thankful for all you have given us,

most of all, your friendship.

Love,

The Dodds.”

:)

Seriously. Thank you dear friends for YOUR friendship, and for turning a half empty day into a half full one :)

(and PS thanks also to my friends for sending me these flowers from my favorite floral artist, Meg from Pistil & Vine!)

A few weeks ago I met up with this Bump Club Chicago VIP couple to capture their lives right before their little one’s arrival and had the best time ever :)  We hung out at home, tried to wear their pup Bea out with some play time, and then took a stroll around the neighborhood to enjoy some of the best street art around and watch the sun set in the city.  It was everything I hope for when I’m showing up for a session.. fun people, beautiful light, and the city that I love.  Needless to say I am so happy for these two on their upcoming new addition and can’t wait to meet their little guy once he arrives next month.

Here are but some of my favorites from our time together wandering around the city.. thank you so so much again Jennifer & Jeff for inviting me out to capture this time in your lives, I had a beyond awesome time getting to know and I can’t wait to come back and hang out again soon! XO

The other weekend I spent with seriously some of the sweetest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing.  I originally met Kate through a mutual friend whose nursery she designed.  After capturing her work for On to Baby and also getting to know her occasionally over the last year, Kate is my hands-down favorite interior designer in Chicago and the owner of Noble Design Group.

Needless to say I was beyond excited when Kate told me she’d be expecting a little girl of her own and I couldn’t wait to capture her own growing family and nursery :)

So the other week we got together for an early morning session to capture their life right before baby Piper’s arrival, and to spend a few hours with these two was just cloud nine for me.  Their warmth was so infectious and they were even kind enough to invite me to stay for lunch afterwards.  We walked around a local park, saw the duck pond and a pack of crazy squirrels (long story), and then walked back home to hang out for a bit more.  Once we were finished shooting we enjoyed chips and salsa & enchiladas (which I must get the recipe for, they were so good!) and talked about technology overloading, helping the less fortunate, and their mission trips to China that they participate in often.  It was the perfect session and I hope that these images reflect exactly what I’m talking about.

Anyway, thank you so much again Kate & Brandon for having me over and letting me capture your love, I can’t wait until baby Piper arrives soon! (only 3 more weeks!!) XO

chicago pregnancy photographers | spring blooms.

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Although I normally don’t blog my pregnancy sessions until baby arrives, I was so excited to see this family not long ago and couldn’t resist sharing a few ‘ahead of schedule.’  Not only are mom & dad old friends of mine that I haven’t seen in ages but they won this session with me through a facebook contest I did a while back!  I recall giving away a free Simply by Suzy session to one of our facebook fans to celebrate our first birthday last year and was beyond psyched when I found out who won, and so thankful we waited it out a bit because what was originally intended to be a family photography session for three ended up being.. a pregnancy & family photography session for four ;)  I also thought this was a great example to share and talk about how to get the most out of hiring a custom baby family photographer to photograph your own family – maintaining open communication about your needs and style as a client.  For my friends I can honestly say I would have done something totally different but after hearing mom’s detailed vision for her session and what she hoped I would capture, my own artistic vision completely changed.    She told me how she pictured images among nature to incorporate the blooming springtime since their family was blooming with its own new beginnings.. how much she loved the photographs in my portfolio depicting expecting mothers out in the woods.. she told me all about her sweet Owen who just turned two not long ago and the things she wanted to remember most about him at this point in his babyhood.  And after it’s all said and done, I couldn’t be more pleased with the direction that I was taken in with this session and I am even more grateful to have been able to reconnect with them. I can’t wait to return and meet their newest little one in just a few months :)

Anyway here are my favorites from our time together playing in the forest.  Thank you so much again Anna, Ray and Owen for spending an afternoon with me and my baby duckies.  I (we) had the best time ever and I am so excited to see you all again soon! XO
