chicago family photographers | 3 years & 6 months of love

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Last month I had the pleasure of photographing little T’s 3rd birthday party, and this month we all got together to celebrate her baby sister’s 6 month mark!  In order to commemorate the occasion, we spent the afternoon just hanging out at the forest preserve, walking through the leaves and enjoying what felt like the last warm weekend of the year.  Here are just a few of my faves for now, enjoy!

chicago baby photographers | wish upon a birdy

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

I’ve been photographing baby Weber since he was only 2 months old, and just recently I got to spend the afternoon (on his actual birthday!) picking out pumpkins, laughing and playing in a field.  I can’t believe how much of a little ham he’s turned into, although I shouldn’t be too surprised considering the moment I laid him down for photos at our first session together he gave me the biggest toothless smile ever.  Now his head is full of hair and his mouth is full of baby teefers and a whole year has passed us by…

… after our session was finished, Weber’s parents were kind enough to invite me over for a champagne toast to celebrate Weber’s first year of life (and despite being off the clock, did you really think I was going to leave my camera in the car??).

And I think every mom can relate to that first birthday moment when you place that mini-cake you had specially made in front of your baby and they stare at it for a few seconds, wondering “Wait a second, you want me to eat that thing?”  They poke, feel, and play with it until mom or dad takes a tiny bit of frosting with their own fingers and shows them how it’s done, or maybe even wipes a little bit on those little lips so they can realize the sweet, sugary goodness that lays before them.

chicago family photographers | family of 14 and counting…

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

This is the second year in a row now that I’ve photographed this family at their annual get-together.  Although photographing large extended families is not typically what I do, you probably recognize the baby of the bunch – Avery – whom I’ve been photographing since she was just 6 months old!  As you can tell, all 14 of the parents, grandparents and kids are full of love and kisses for each other… and surprisingly for the camera too!  Just like last year, all of the grandkids know how to make me really special as they fought each other to get my attention and their picture taken (and apparently peace signs are the new thing for the kids this  year, which I’m all about peace, love & harmony so I was diggin’ it!).  Thanks to everyone for making it a fun and relaxing afternoon, just strolling around Soldier Field and Museum Campus. I can’t wait to see you all next year!

…and maybe there will be even more family members by then? :o )

chicago family photographers | fall fun

Monday, October 11th, 2010

This past week has been crazy for me – I’ve had a session a day, 4 days in a row already!  And while I used to complain about little sleep and lots of work, I now am so appreciative of the fact that I get to spend my days with beautiful people (inside & out of course!), happy children and loving families.  The other day I spent hanging out with this amazing family and their two kids – 2 year-old Sophie and her baby sister Chloe.  I always get a little nervous before meeting a family for the first time, especially when I’m photographing kids between the ages of 2-5 because it’s totally not uncommon for children at that age to hate when someone brings a camera around despite whatever toys you bring or tricks up your sleeve you have. However, I knew that Sophie and I would be the best of friends when she took me to her room to give me a tour of her closet and show off all of the pretty tulle, princess skirts and Matilda Jane dresses in it.  After showing me her fabulous wardrobe, I fell more in love with Sophie after watching her resist her dad (who was trying to comb her hair) because she insisted on cleaning off the top of her sister’s high chair.  It’s seeing things like that that make me hope so badly when I have my own kids that they have those same qualities (who wouldn’t want a smiley 2 year old around the house who loves to help clean up?).  And baby Chloe, where do I begin… she is just about the happiest and most adorable 8-month old baby you will ever meet.  I love that she’s a little powerhouse and will still give you smiles and giggles even with a double ear infection, and I love her chubby cheeks and baby rolls! (and it’s okay Chloe, I don’t fit into my jeans either anymore these days) Thank you so much Chloe & Sophie for spending the afternoon with me and my apples, and thanks even more for making me smile  :o)
