Vasili and I visited this Bump Club VIP family not long ago to help capture their sweet Ava’s arrival.  After first getting to know her parents a few months prior I was so excited to come back and meet her.  Not only was she as sweet and adorable as I imagined, but I was so enamored with how dainty and graceful she was, even at just 11 days old :)

Thanks so much Ava and to your mom & dad for allowing us the privilege of capturing this time for you all and looking forward to seeing you again soon hopefully! XO

When I came over for Kevin’s 1 year session, I knew it was going to be a fun morning upon arriving to this :) (see below)

We played, read books, changed outfits a bazillion times, even went outside because it was somehow a beautiful day (yes, even in the middle of winter) and just overall had a ton.of.fun.  And while this might be our last session for Kevy’s first year of life, it is certainly not the last time we will spend time together :) Happy birthday Kevin and thanks for making this past year extra amazing!

chicago family photojournalism | i love your happy face and your sad face.

Monday, September 26th, 2011

I had the BEST time getting to know this family better last month as we had a session to capture their sweet little Lucy.  We started off watching the sun rise at the beach, we walked over to the park to finish up and then I followed them back home for story time before putting Lucy down for her afternoon nap.  I think my favorite moment of the day was during story time when mom was reading a book to Lucy about how she will love her for the rest of her life, no matter what – she will love her happy face, and even love her sad face (though after our time together it seems Lucy only has a happy face lol).  It was also a book about acceptance of others and not judging your peers for the circumstances of which they come from or the choices they make about their life. It’s okay to need some help, it’s okay to be a different color, it’s okay to talk about your feelings, it’s okay to make a wish.. I thought to myself, what a great message to send to your little ones every day :)

Anyway, here were some of my favorites from our morning together.  Thank you so much to Lucy and her family for not only waking up at the crack of dawn to enjoy the beautiful sunrise with me, but for also letting me be a part of your family, even if but for a few hours :)

chicago family photojournalists | back home to chicago.

Sunday, September 4th, 2011

When I first met Bella and her parents, Bella was just 5 months old and we spent the afternoon walking around U of C’s campus reminiscing on old memories of college, where her parents first met, where they got married… it was also a very special session for me as it was the first time I had really practiced with the idea of photojournalism and a much less traditional style in my family work.  Since then this family has moved to the east coast and I was beyond elated when I got an email from them saying they were coming back into town for a family get-together and wanted to make time to visit with me as well.  Since mom and dad were feeling a little homesick for Chicago, I wanted to make sure that their session images would not only capture their family and how much Bella has grown but also a piece of the city they love.  I have such admiration for my good friends David & Nancy Wittig of DWP (who are the most unbelievable fine-art wedding photographers!) and knew that their aerial and city-scape work would serve as the perfect pieces for my inspiration boards with this family’s session.

Anyway, here’s a peek into our morning together roaming around one of the best cities in the world.. :)

chicago newborn baby photographers | growing up.

Friday, June 10th, 2011

So there was this dream I once had where I was a teenager forever.  Me and my friends would go to the mall every day after school and after cheerleading practice was finished.  We’d talk about boys and make-up for hours and fantasize about growing up one day.  About going off to college and turning 21.. wondering who would be the first of us to have kids? When would we get married? Would we get married at all? And then I woke up and realized that those days are long over and I’m officially a full-fledged adult already *sigh*

I’ve been having these moments of self-actuality often lately (though seemingly more frequent the more gray hairs I find on my head or spider veins on my legs… lol) and one of my most recent experiences happened after one of my best friend’s baby brother… had a baby.  Aside from the fact that this once gangly tall boy who we would playfully tease and embarrass is now a gigantic 200+ lb man whose biceps circumference is probably twice that of one of my thighs, he is now all grown up  and starting a family.  My friend, Liam’s mom and I got together the other weekend and did a mini-session of Liam to celebrate his one-month mark.  Thanks so much for inviting me out to do photos and a BIG congratulations to one of my best friends in the whole world and her entire family. Babies are such a blessing and I’m looking forward to seeing how many more we add to our bunch :)

The photo below actually happened in between pictures and completely by accident (or should I say rather by Liam’s doing and not my own).  He reflexively flailed out his arms and when he relaxed this is how we found him.  Oh yeah… he’s a Wheaton for sure :)
